Alison Krauss
The first wave of popular recognition came from bluegrass musician Alison Krauss in 1990 when at age 19, she walked away in her first Grammy Awards with the trophy for Best Bluegrass Album. It was an accomplishment not only because of Krauss's old age, but because the album that earned her such recognition, I've Got That Old Feeling, was actually the third in Krauss's collection. The first album, Too Late to Cry which was released at the time that she was Champaign, Illinois, native was just 16 years old; she had signed a contract with Rounder Records--one the most respected folk music labels in the industry--at the age of 14. In addition, her achievements so young as well as her amazing virtuosity have always been measured by her devotion to bluegrass. Bluegrass is one of the oldest of the genres, but perhaps one of the least appreciated form of traditional American musical forms. Krauss, who was once young phenom had developed into an accomplished musician as well as a producer.
